Hair loss is a problem that affects a large percentage of individuals. Most are men suffering from male pattern baldness. However, there are also other reasons for one to lose his hair. Stress, illness, certain medical treatments, radiation exposure, and more can cause one to lose his hair prematurely. There are hair loss treatments available, both OTC and by prescription. For many, it is also possible to keep or regrow their hair by taking certain vitamins for hair loss.

Vitamin E is a very powerful antioxidant shown to stimulate hair growth by increasing the flow of blood to the follicles. This makes an additional amount of nutrients available for hair growth. While most of us get the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of this vitamin through the foods we eat, It would not hurt most of us to add a supplement containing vitamin E to our daily routine.

Several of the B-complex vitamins are essential for maintaining hair and keeping it healthy. One known by its chemical name as inositol helps to prevent hair loss. Vitamin B-5 (Panthenol) has been shown to help stop hair loss and to help regrow hair that is thinning. Biotin is one B-complex vitamin that is essential to prevent hair loss.

Niacin, known as vitamin B-3, helps increase blood circulation, including to the scalp. This increased flow of blood brings more nutrients to hair follicles. Two of the more common B vitamins, B-6 and B-12 also help to keep the hair you have healthy so it does not fall out.

Vitamin helps the body produce sebum, the oil that is produced inside the hair follicles. This keeps them lubricated and prevents drying out that can cause the hair to let go and fall out. However, Vitamin is not metabolized as efficiently as most other nutrients. It can, therefore, build up inside the body and reach toxic levels if two much is taken. It is best to get this vitamin in the foods we eat. It can be found in all of the yellow, orange, or red vegetables, eggs, liver, and leafy greens.

Finally, one of the important vitamins for hair loss is also important in many other ways to the body. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that has been shown to have benefits in almost all areas of health. It comes as no surprise to know that it promotes the growth and regrowth of healthy hair.
