Men are every bit as particular about their hair as women. Sometimes they are more particular. So, if it is not unusual for a woman to want to change the color of her hair or to add highlights, it stands to reason that a man would like to do the same thing from time to time. However, many people, men and women are concerned about putting harsh chemicals in their hair. That is why we are going to discuss how to lighten hair naturally.

There are several different natural ways to lighten hair. Some may bleach the hair uniformly while others just add those highlights that all guys like to have because they catch the ladies' eyes. The one thing these natural methods of lightening hair have in common is the absence of chemicals from the drug store.

The easiest and most natural way to lighten hair is exposure to direct sunlight. We all spend more time outdoors in the summer while the weather is more favorable. Most of us have noticed that our hair gets lighter as the summer progresses. The sunlight has this effect on the hair.

One can hasten this effect by going swimming and allowing the hair to dry in the sun. If one swims in a public or private swimming pool, the chlorine in the water will speed the process. It is true that chlorine is a chemical, but it is not being deliberately placed on the hair. It simply is a fact of life for those who swim in pools that the water contains chlorine.

Another natural method of gaining lighter highlights is to mix lemon juice with water and apply it to the head. This mixture should be left in place for about an hour before rinsing out. However, the acids in the juice will also damage the hair if the mixture is too concentrated, so care is needed when using this method.

Certain herbal teas and even regular tea of the variety we drink as iced tea will change the color of the hair. If one is already light haired, the regular tea may dye it darker. However, for those with darker hair, tea is a natural hair color that can be applied multiple times until the desired shade is reached without fear of damaging the hair.

There are several answers to the question of how to lighten hair naturally. With so many natural options, using chemicals on the hair should be a last resort.
